Putrid Wargames Supplies Blog May 2014 Week 4: Closing Sales and Community Updates

Putrid News

Closing down sale and charity donations

As most of you now know, Putrid Wargames Supplies UK is due to close up for good. It is a sad time, and we will miss every customer we’ve had over the past year, but the time comes for everyone, and we’ve had a good run. You have all been valued customers, and before we go into the Aether, will want to do something special for you.

Until the end of June, all items in-stock are discounted. As well as this, 5% of all our sales until we close will be donated to Help for Heroes. We have added an additional donation option, which will allow you to donate an extra £1 should you wish to; if you wish to donate more, simply increase the number of £1 donations you wish to make. You can check the store-page for further details.

Now, to finish off today’s news update, here’s a selection of ever-fantastic community updates. Before we go, we strongly urge you to follow these guys and support their work; without them, we wouldn’t have started this business, and wouldn’t have met so many great people along the way.

Some unfortunate news from HQ…

Hello warmongers it’s Adam here!

Some of you may of noticed that I have been somewhat lacking in the social media updates and news from HQ, there is a reason for this…

Sadly myself and Emily have decided to cease trading as Putrid Wargames Supplies UK at the end of June 2014.  It was a hard decision but we have to be realistic with our lives and sadly the business is not working for us.

But will happen now you have announced this?

For those of you attending the Mid-Wales Wargaming Society Charity tournament this coming Saturday 17th May, do not worry because we have managed to sort it out so we can make it 🙂

We are going to be holding a clearance sale that will start on the 17th/18th May and will run right up to the end of June 2014, it will be a tasty % off the RRPs of all our stocked items and we have also decided to give a set % out of that periods takings (after fees) to help 4 Heroes.  We feel it’s a great cause and as our final act of awesomeness this is what we will be doing so keep an eye out for more details!

What will happen after the end of June?

Well after June, the site will be taken down, all the social media pages will be deleted/unpublished and our phone number will be cancelled, we will leave the email account open for a while in case people need assistance with items bought form us during the clearance period. But mostly we will disappear as a business.

I know this is sad news to take in and believe me it was a hard thing to decide but I said from the start as soon as this effected our personal lives then I’m pulling the plug before it does damage and that’s what I’m doing.

Now…onto the thanks

Well I can hardly end a post like this without thanking a few people/groups now can I?

First up is YOU the customer, not just for buying our stuff from us (that did help though!) but for being there to support us through our rough times, giving us advice and being the best!  THANKS! 🙂

Secondly I would like to thank ALL the wargaming clubs we visited during our 15 months of trading, your support (and purchases) kept us going and we made some awesome friends along the way (soon to be mentioned uh oh!). THANKS! 🙂

Right onto personal mentions, these are people who helped us out both in our early stages and also those who I consider to be damn fine friends:

Kevin Rowland – Good sir without your permission to let me sell at the Reavers in the first place, I would never of even got off the floor, you’ve been a great dude and certainly “more than meets the eye”. I’ve had some great advice from you and I consider you a friend and fellow Cybertronian ;). THANKS 🙂

Tris Moran – You and your entire club have been a serious girder in my business, sure you guys may of thrown serious cash my way but again I see past that.  You have a fantastic club and you really do care about your group.  We have had some great chats and you and fellow club members have given some ace advice.  This definitely won’t be the last you see of me ;). THANKS 🙂

Andrew Wells – What can I say about you? Hmm…you haven’t always agreed on everything I’ve talked to you about, you certainly have a way of putting your point across!  But you know what, that’s good and that’s why you’re a great bloke.  I’ve had some of the most practical advice off you and you’re a bloody great laugh!  You sir will be seeing me Saturday and boy will the ceiling ring with laughter. Certainly a person I can call a friend. THANKS 🙂

Spud Tate – Spud you were one of the first “Friends of Putrid Painting” and held our banner high inside your videos but you were more than that in my eyes, a true brother.  Spud you are the brother I never had (only child :P) and someday we will meet in the flesh and when we do…buildings will crumble beneath the chicken bones left over from our feasting.  This people is someone you can truly rely on and trust. THANKS 🙂

Paul Simpson – My last personal mention and I might have to say the best saved until last (uh oh he’s getting soppy RUN FOR IT!). I can call you a true friend, we have both shared woes and been there when needed most. Someone possibly as mad as I am and I didn’t think it was possible!  I bloody love your sculpting and energy you put into things and wish you and Gemini Miniatures every success, I will be doing everything in my power to support you sir. You have my word as a friend. THANKS 🙂

Of course this doesn’t mean everyone else is poop!  Everyone who I have met personally has helped us in one way or another (even sometimes without knowing!).  So thank you to all those people, I’ve had a great time meeting you all and I’m almost sure it won’t be the last time we see each other!

Anyway I’m waffling (I said I wouldn’t waffle!) and I’ve more than said what I wanted to say.  Please keep an eye out on our social media pages and webstore over the next 4-5 days for more information on our clearance sale.

If you want to talk to me or just need to know more information simply email us at putridpainting@gmail.com or Facebook message/direct twitter message us! Those of you who are friends with me personally on Facebook know where to find me :P.

Thank you truly once again for everything and I will see you all very soon!

Kindest regards and may all your die roll 6s!

Tutorial: Adding Trim to Armour

Applying trim to armour is a nice way of adding detail, or just to make something look special. The following tutorial is perfect for use on large items such as tanks, and can be used for tanks of the Chaos Space Marines, or in non-spiky form, to signify command or ‘relic’ tanks, or to help embellish extra armour panels.

Tools and Materials

• Plasticard strips (2mm width pieces were used here)
• Nail art beads (loose bead variety, available from the pound shop in packs of 12)
• Hobby drill with 1mm drill bit
• Super glue
• File
• Knife
• Liquid green stuff/putty

How to make it

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

First off, get your piece of armour. Here we’re using a leg from a Contemptor Dreadnought. For a smooth application of the trim, shave off all rivets and details that would get in the way of the trim.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The now smooth surface.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Apply your first piece of trim. You can either choose to cut the piece then apply it, or just glue the strip to the armour, then cut it once the glue has set. I chose the latter, as it ensures that it is the correct size, with minimal fuss.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s the fitted piece.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Once you have this first piece on, it is much easier to add subsequent pieces. Keep adding trim to the armour/tank until you are happy with the look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Next, you’ll need to drill holes for the rivets. Drill shallow holes where you want rivets to go. For symmetrical designs, start by drilling the corners first, then find the middle and drill there. Drill either side of the middle symmetrically as required.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Add the rivets. Use a pin or something similarly small to add a bead of glue to the hole. Using your finger, or tweezers, add a nail art bead into the hole and press firmly in. Repeat.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

To finish off, use the liquid green stuff to fill in any gaps. At this stage you are done, but feel free to embellish the trim with spikes and other designs. It is advised to use the same thickness of plasticard as used for the basic trim. And there you have it, a little detail that can add so much to your vehicles.

Behemoth of Decay arrives home

SONY DSC

This amazing model, a Behemoth of Decay from Titan Forge, was painted for us by Clint Cooke, of the Adaptus Paintarium commission painting group. It’s a one-off piece, mainly for display and scaring off people at the front door.

SONY DSC

Clint has done a great job of going one stage further on this model. As well as the painting, he’s added a great looking scenic base, depicting the giant daemon taking on (and presumably besting) a Space Marine biker.

SONY DSC

Below are a few more images of the finished piece. If you want anything done as a commission job, we are more than happy to recommend Clint and his group. To arrange a commission  contact them via their Facebook page, or by email at:

G+: the new Facebook

We plan to move more of our updates from Facebook to Google’s G+ platform. This is because Facebook’s methods of ‘encouraging’ paid-for advertising mean very few of you are able to view our updates, and this number gets smaller as the months go by. We feel that this isn’t fair on either us as a small business, or you as customers and fans of the page. So in the next few weeks, you will see an increased presence on G+, where our updates will be both free and seen by all who seek it.

Putrid News

We have a new name!

As some of you know, we are now known as Putrid Wargames Supplies UK. We wanted a name which reflected our services (many confused us with commission painters, I can’t think why *wink*).  As of this week, our Facebook page now has adopted the new name. We should still appear on your news feeds, but now as Putrid Wargames Supplies UK, so keep an eye out. That is all that has changed, and we will still be the same lovable bunch of traders working for the benefit of gamers, just with shiny new name-tags.

Putrid Projects: Update 5

Today, the Putrid team is sharing some work on some creatures (and tanks) great and small.

Adam

Adam’s been busy adding to his Bushido sets. Today’s offering showcases several of his bigger, scarier monsters. They have all been built, and now await a base coat.

16th 2

An extremely frightening (and awesome) Araka (left) and a Wraith model (right), for the Cult of Yurei.

16th 3

As you can see, it is quite a large model, easily dwarfing a GW Dreadnought.

16th 1

To combat these evil spirits, Adam’s also built a bunch of elementals (fire, air, water and rock ) for the Temple of Ro-Kan.

Matt

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve been tidying up the monstrous tank that is my Chaos Spartan Assault Tank. The main bulk of the work is done, and now it’s just a matter preparing the weapons and adding a few more finishing details.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A few extra armour panels were added to the sides, in front of the access doors. I will mount the quad Lascannon batteries on these.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The engine bay has got a few extra spikes, and will be getting some cables and ports added to it.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The front end is pretty much done. I plan to paint the light housings separate, so no paint gets on the bulbs.

I am currently missing a pair of doors on this thing. I’m debating between a custom pair, or these Forge World ones. If you have suggestions as to which, comment below.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

To finish off, here’s a close-up of the commander, who now sports a new Maxmini head.

MERCS forces awaiting a game.

Matt

Sadly, I’ve had very little time for fun this past week. I’ve been swamped in final year university deadlines, with two major pieces (a dissertation and a project) due on the same day. What little time I have had left has been spent recovering. That said, I have managed to pieces together this….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A new Warpsmith for my Thousand Sons army. I’ve made it out of spare models bits and junk from my bits-box. The base model is a Librarian, with a classic Techmarine backpack.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m tempted to keep the bare head for variety, but it may get a sculpted face plate, to tie in with the rest of my undead legion and their fully enclosed armour.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The gun-blade was made out of various Necron compnents, added to the Librarian’s staff. I intend to either add a fuel cannister to the back of the gun barrel, or run a cable to the backpack.

That is all for this week, but we’ll see you again next week for another mid-week update.

The ONLY blog to get the latest news, updates, and more from Putrid Painting HQ, updated regularly!
